For various reasons, muscles can tighten and cause pain—ranging from sharp, localized discomfort to a dull, aching sensation that may radiate from another area of the body. In my experience, the most effective solution is deep, targeted, sustained pressure, applied within the client’s comfort threshold—an intensity they can tolerate while relaxing and breathing deeply. Over time, this approach typically allows the muscle to release, relieving pain and restoring range of motion.

My relaxation style still loosens muscles and connective tissue, but in a broader, calming way—far more than just a superficial glide over the skin. The pace is slow and intentional, and it’s common for clients to fall asleep during the session or drift into a deeply relaxed state.

When a client comes in for a remedial massage, my primary focus is targeting their pain points to deliver relief. However, if a few minutes remain at the end, I often include a foot or head massage to calm and balance the nervous system—especially after prolonged discomfort.

As we age, movement and activity—essential for keeping muscles healthy—often decrease, leading to aches and pains throughout the body. A home visit can address these discomforts, providing relief in a space where the client feels at ease, whether that’s a recliner or bed in their own home. Plus, the treatment offers the added benefit of fulfilling our natural need for physical touch and human connection.
